Vidyapith Praktani EC is glad to invite you to the 28th Session of Praktani Adda. The topic for this Adda is ‘JOURNEY TO THE WONDERLAND CALLED ANTARCTICA.’ The proposed session will be conducted by Debdip Chakraborty, RKMV 1985 Class X.
A stalwart in his field, Debdip Da completed his Class XII from Birla High School, Kolkata. A Physics graduate from Maulana Azad College, Kolkata, he pursued his Post-graduation, which subsequently was completed from the University of Kalyani with a specialization in Nuclear Physics.
During his post-graduation days, he joined IMD and specialized in Numerical Weather prediction and DOPPLER RADAR Meteorology.
About the session:
This session will primarily be an acquainting one for the audience about the nation’s launching of annual expeditions to Antarctica since 1981. Session will facilitate and inspire aspiring participants in the upcoming expeditions.
The areas of focus will be the Objectives of India’s annual scientific expedition to Antarctica and the Qualifications and criteria required to be fulfilled to be in the journey.
About the speaker:
Debdip Da has been serving IMD for the past 28 years. His first journey to Antarctica was on December 24, 2015, as a member of the Scientific Expedition to Antarctica (ISEA), onboard the Russian ice-class cargo vessel “MV PAPANIN.”
In December 2016, he was entrusted by National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR) under the Ministry of Science to lead the 36th ISEA at MAITRI, the second Indian Antarctican research base.
