Praktani Adda Session 13: Architecture

Dear Brothers,

Vidyapith Praktani EC is glad to invite you to another Praktani Adda session at  5 pm IST on Saturday, October 02, 2021. The proposed session is on Architecture, introducing us to the newer paradigms in the field. It will be jointly conducted by two of our alumni Sandeep Kumar Jha, RKMV 1986 and Sankalpa, RKMV 1995.  Parthasarathi Chakrabarti, RKMV 1990 has consented to moderate the session.  

About the session: Architecture plays a vital role in all our lives and civilizations have thrived on their choice of building and executing the same with artistic flair confined to their interpretation of the world to leave a mark along the corridors of history. The session will be beneficial for all who are seeking to build a career out of it and others who want to peek into the future by acquainting themselves with the vagaries of vistas in the field.  If you are intrigued by the art and effort that goes into building monuments and humble abodes that stand tall through the sandstorm of time to narrate the intricacies of their time. This session aims at dwelling many such queries related to Architecture and our speakers would be broadly discussing the following:

1. Influences of Vidyapith as an example of good architecture in our early life

2. Profession of architecture

3. Philosophy and work

About the speakers:

Sandeep Kumar Jha, 1986 batch, pursued 10+2 from Delhi Public School R.K Puram and completed his Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from School of Planning & Architecture (SPA), New Delhi. During his college days in 1989, he co-founded “Spandan,” the theater Society of SPA, which is a vibrant theater group even today. He acted in several plays of “Spandan” under several theatre Gurus like Piyush Mishra.

He went ahead with his master’s in Urban Planning from BIT, Mesra and has worked in the rural area of Rajasthan and Bihar to design and construct rural primary school buildings with innovative design, cost-effective construction Technologies and community Participation. Along with like-minded professionals, he founded an NGO called “Vikalp” to propagate Cost-Effective construction in the rural area of Jharkhand. In 2002, he started his firm “AXIS, Architects, based in Ranchi, leading a team of around 20 professionals. With many awards under his belt, he seeks solace in detailing and conceptualizing architecture from the lens of construction. 

Whereas Sankalpa, 1995 batch, a co-founder of ‘Thumbimpressions,’ is an academician and a practicing architect. He has designed several innovative structures and has conducted workshops for students and professionals both nationally and internationally. He teaches at the Faculty of Architecture, CEPT University, Ahmedabad. He is a recipient of the ‘Excellence in Teaching Award’ for his contribution to academics in architecture.  

About the moderator:

Parthasarathi Chakrabarti, 1990 Batch, moved on to complete his +2 from DPS RK Puram and later completed his B. Arch from SPA. He also holds an MBA degree from Amity University. A prominent member of Spandan, SPA’s theater society, he co-founded 2nd Foundation, a professional theater group and did major productions for ten years in Delhi NCR. He has worked with the Delhi theater circle stalwarts such as Piyush Mishra, Arvind Gaur, Deepak Dobriyal, etc. Currently, he is the Associate Director with AECOM, a Fortune 500 company and the largest AEC consulting firm globally, leading the architectural design team in India.
