About the session: This session of Praktani Adda will inform you about the challenges and evolution of heart surgery, glimpses of historical landmarks, where it stands today, and its future. It will also cover the present state of heart surgery in India. It will detail the nuances of the field for younger praktani brothers who intend to opt for this specialty in the future.
About the speaker: Dr. Debasis Das is currently the chief consultant cardiac surgeon at Narayana Health group. A cardiac and heart transplant surgeon in Kolkata since 2009, he has more than 15 years of experience with over 4000 adult and paediatric surgeries to his credit. He pioneered the centre at Narayana in 2013.
An MBBS degree holder from Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi, he pursued MS (General Surgery) and MRCS(Edin). Later he moved to Australia for advanced training and completed two years of adult fellowship at Austin Hospital, Melbourne, and one year of paediatric cardiac Fellowship from The Childrens’ Hospital at Westmead, Sydney, Australia. Dr. Debasis has completed MCh in Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery from the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh.
He is a stalwart in heart transplant, congenital and neonatal heart surgery, aortic surgery, coronary revascularisation, and valve repairs.
