The Conscious Universe, Cosmology and Big Bang

Pratyush Pranav (Class X, 2001 Batch)

Dr. Pratyush Pranav’s enticing session on cosmology was a journey of sorts through the stars hitchhiking on a spaceship with virtual reality set glasses on. The session deliberated on the origin of the universe and delved over the Big-Bang theory and its shortcomings in its advent.

The talk was an amalgamation of spiritual exploration piggybacking on scientific findings that dealt with subjects like humans and the cosmos and humans’ place and role in this vast universe. The session commenced by explaining the various theories floating around to solve the mystery about the universe’s origin and moved towards the most accepted theory of the Big Bang. Later the speaker also divulged the limitations of this widely accepted scientific postulate and moved on to explain the nitty-gritty about the origin of the universe.

In the journey to explain the origin of the universe, Pratyush discussed the size of the universe, content and shape of the universe, and the role of humans in the universe who are just a speck of dust in the vastness. The speaker presented exciting studies and facts to explain these topics and set the trajectory for the talk as he moved forward with his probe on the various theories and present state-of-the-art in the field of cosmology.

Later on, the session was all about the modern hypothesis encompassing technical topics like applied mathematics, data analytics and big data that is increasingly becoming ubiquitous to the sciences, Astrophysics being no exception. These scientific studies are also the speaker’s forte. He briefly touched on each point to present it in an alluring manner for a better understanding of layman and garner curiosity towards the field of study.
